alumni

Use alumni when referring to more than one graduate of the University of Missouri.

Use alumnus to refer to an individual male graduate and alumna to refer to an individual female graduate.

Alum/alums may be used in conversational communications.

When identifying a specific alum, include the degree abbreviation and graduation year after the first reference. Note: The apostrophe should face left. Ex: Jane Doe, BSBA ’99. Ex: John Smith, PhD ’23.

When identifying an alum who has earned multiple degrees, use both abbreviations followed by the year. Ex: Jane Doe, BJ, BA ’21.

As appropriate, identify a group of female graduates as alumnae. Ex: Golden Girls alumnae held a reunion on campus.
